Appointment of Community Advisory Committees at Local Government Institutions Level to monitor the implementation of Government Development Programmes

- The Government is implementing various programmmes and projects to improve the quality of life of all citizens of Sri Lanka and it has been observed that it would be suitable to promote the transparency and accountability in governance by having the community involved in monitoring those programmmes and projects. It will also enable to obtain the knowledge and participation of the community in the said programmes and projects and to ensure that the programmes are tailored to meet the specific needs in each region. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President to authorize the Provincial Governors to appoint Community Advisory Committees on honorary basis to supervise the implementation of the Urumaya Land Ownership Programme, Urban Housing Ownership Programme, Kandukara Dashakaya Development Programme, Agriculture Modernization Programme and the Rice Distribution Programme in coordination with the respective Divisional Secretaries, was approved by the Cabinet.
