Proceeds of Crime Bill

- According to the Agreement entered into with the International Monetary Fund to obtain the Extended Fund Facility, the Government of Sri Lanka should take steps to introduce a comprehensive asset recovery law. Accordingly, the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms has appointed a committee consisting of experts in the field of justice in March, 2023 to prepare the necessary policy and legal framework and procedure regarding the law on proceeds of crime. The joint proposal made by the Hon. President and the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to give instructions to the Legal Draftsman to prepare the Proceeds of Crime Bill based on the recommendations indicated in the Report submitted by the said Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
