Sri Lanka Electricity Bill

- Approval of the Cabinet has been granted at its meeting held on 2023-11-20 to publish the Sri Lanka Electricity Bill in the Government Gazette and submit it to Parliament for approval. After the promulgation of the said bill accordingly, views and suggestions have been received from the various stakeholders including the general public and it has been identified further amendments to be made to include appropriate provisions in the said Bill after evaluation of the said views and suggestions and to enable better reflection of the Government policy on reforms of the Electricity sector. The Attorney General's clearance has been received for the Electricity Bill which has been re-prepared by the Legal Draftsman incorporating also the amendments identified as such. Accordingly, The proposal made by the Minister of Power and Energy to publish the said Bill in the Government Gazette and thereafter submit it to Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
