Granting Land Titles to the Plantation Community

- The Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies has presented a proposal titled "Land Ownership for Estate Population" through the Budget Proposals 2024 to implement a special programme to provide freehold lands to the estate community. In order to implement the said proposal, a programme has been planned to be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development and the New Villagers Development Authority for Plantation Region with the assistance of the Non Cabinet Ministry of State Plantation Enterprises Reforms. Under the said programme, 4,151 beneficiaries living in estates belonging to Regional Plantation Companies and State Plantation Companies have been identified and the joint proposal made by the Hon. President and the Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development to grant freehold deeds expeditiously for lands in which the aforesaid families are currently occupying, was approved by the Cabinet.
