Amendment of the National Minimum Wage of Workers Act
- As per the provisions of the National Minimum Wage of Workers Act, No.3 of 2016, the National Minimum Wage has been set as Rs.12,500/-. A triparte subcommittee consisting of trade unions and employees representing Small and Medium Entrepreneurs appointed on the recommendations of the National Labour Advisory Council, has recommended to increase the National Minimum Wage up to Rs.17,500/-. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment to amend the National Minimum Wage of Workers Act, No.3 of 2016, enabling to increase the National Minimum Wage by Rs.5000/- from Rs.12,500/- to Rs.17,500/- and National Minimum Daily Wage by Rs.200/- from Rs.500/- to Rs.700/-, was approved by the Cabinet.
