Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2024-03-18 (Subject to Confirmation at the next Meeting)
The island-wide programme of collecting information relevant to the issuance of Free Grants with absolute ownership under the "Urumaya" Programme and information relevant to young entrepreneurs under the programme of raising a million young entrepreneurs nationwide
- As of now, nearly 2 million families in the country have been given Grants/Permits for the lands they enjoy. Under the 'Urumaya' Programme, it has been planned to grant the absolute ownership of State lands to the grantees and permit holders, in the year 2024. Further, It has been planned to implement a programme to raise a million young entrepreneurs in the entire island. It is expected to collect information required to implement theses two programmes with the assistance of Grama Niladharies of respective Divisions by deploying the youth force of the National Youth Services Council so as to cover the all 14,022 Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Island. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Tourism and Lands to expeditiously implement the 'Urumaya' Programme and the programme to raise a million young entrepreneurs, having collected required information by utilizing the existing mechanism at Divisional Secretariat level, was approved by the Cabinet.
