Donation of Japanese Yen One Thousand and Six Hundred Million (JPY1600 million) by the Government of Japan under the Japanese Economic and Social Development Programme
- During the present economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the Government of Japan has extended its cooperation by providing instant humanitarian assistance for the affected community and empowering the public sector. Accordingly, the Government of Japan has agreed to award Japanese Yen One Thousand and Six Hundred Million (approximately LKR 3.3 billion) in order to implement the following projects under the Japanese Economic and Social Development Programme.

i. The project for improving oil spill response and management of the Sri Lanka coast guard

ii. The project for the provision of supportive equipment for maternal and pediatric care at major hospitals in the Northern Province and equipping dressmaker courses at vocational training centres in the Northern Province.

iii. The project for the provision of supportive equipment for the safety of fishermen in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to sign the Exchange of Notes and other related documents with the Government of Japan to obtain grant assistance under the Japanese Economic and Social Development Programme. for the implementation of the above projects, was approved by the Cabinet.
