Publication of Standardization and Quality Control Regulations Under the Imports and Exports Control Act, No. 1 of 1969
- Imports and Exports Control (Standardization and Quality Control) Regulation 2017 have been imposed under the provisions of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, No. 1 of 1969 in order to establish Standards and Quality on importation of 122 categories of goods classified under 217 HS Codes, aiming to safeguard the national economy, public health and environment. It has been found to be required to revise the existing standards and quality parameters in the Standards Regulation 2017 in order to facilitate expeditious, safer and effective trade flows as well as to ensure a level playing field for domestic products and imported products. Under this backdrop, the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, in consultation with key stakeholders including the Government Institutions, Business Associations and Chambers has revised and updated the existing standards and quality parameters. Accordingy, the proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to impose Imports and Exports Control (Standardization and Quality Control) Regulations of 2024 under the provisions of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, No. 1 of 1969 by rescinding the Imports and Exports Control (Standardization and Quality Control) Regulations 2017 without prejudice, was approved by the Cabinet.
