Implementation of the “School Meals Programme” for the students from Grade 1 - 5 in Government Schools
- The “School Meals Programme” is implemented in 7902 schools belonging to 100 Educational Zones in the Island covering 1.08 million of the entire student population and a sum of Rs. 85/- has been allocated for each student for one day meal. The Officials Committee appointed in this regard had reported that at least Rs.110/-amount is spent for one meal according to the price fluctuations of goods and services in the market. Also, “Save the Children” Organization has agreed to provide 03 food items for 2 lakhs of students in 917 selected schools for the year 2024 for the “School Meals Programme”. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Education to increase the allocation for one student per one meal uptoRs.110/- and implement the “School Meals Programme” for Primary Section students for 170 days during the year 2024, was approved by the Cabinet.
