Establishment of a museum in the historical Seethawaka area
- Even though the rise of the Seethawaka Kingdom in year 1521 is a unique milestone in the history of Kingdoms in Sri Lanka, a suitable venue to exhibit regional identities in the Kingdom has not yet been established. Therefore, it has been planned to establish a museum to exhibit formally to the public the artifacts including sinhala guns, war equipment including sinhala swards and the equipment used for weighing, measuring and excavations which were manufactured during the era of the Kingdom as well as the stone tools belonging to the prehistoric era, information of equipment and food used by the past human beings and the animal and plant residues identified through the excavations carried out in the area belonging to the Seethawaka Kingdom and among the things in the possession of public. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government; Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Minister of Transport and Highways to establish the said museum in the office quarters belonging to the Sri Lanka Railways which is currently underutilized, situated adjacent to the Main Post Office, Seethawaka, was approved by the Cabinet.
