Introducing an Act to establish a Public Performance Classification Board by repealing the Public Performance Ordinance No.7 of 1912
- The Public Performance Ordinance No.7 of 1912 is currently in force regarding the public performance and the need to introduce a new Act has been identified to introduce rules and regulations as appropriate for the Sri Lankan society aligning with the global trends and standards, while ensuring the complete freedom of art. An initial draft has been prepared to be used as the basis for the new Act, by a committee appointed under the Chairmanship of Mr. Saman Athaudahetti, the former Chairman of the Public Performance Board. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Hon. President and the Minister of Mass media to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Bill incorporating the relevant provisions enabling to repeal the Public Performance Ordinance No.7 of 1912 and to introduce a new Act named Public Performances Classification Board Act, was approved by the Cabinet.
