Harnessing of offshore wind potential of Sri Lanka

- Recently, the World Bank consultants have conducted a feasibility study on offshore wind development and based on the results of the said study, the North, West and South-East areas have been identified as areas with high potential for energy production through large-scale offshore wind farms. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Power and Energy to take necessary action to develop Sri Lanka's offshore wind potentials in phases through private sector investments by increasing the contribution of large-scale renewable energy in the country and developing economies of scale, was approved by the Cabinet.
