Accession of Protocol relating to an amendment to the Convention on International Civil Aviation
- Sri Lanka has signed the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention) in 1948, and thus Sri Lanka has become a State party to that Convention. In the 25th General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization held on 1984-05-10 has approved the amendment of the Chicago Convention to prevent the use of weapons by States Parties against a civil aircraft in flight, and the said amendment came into effect on 1998-10-01. A Committee has been appointed to obtain recommendations regarding Sri Lanka's accession of Protocol relating to the amendment to the Chicago Convention (Article 3 bis), and the Committee has recommended that there is no obstacle for the accession of the said Protocol, since the Article 3 bis is included in the Schedule of the Civil Aviation Act No. 14 of 2010. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation to access the Protocol (Article 3 bis) relating to the amendment to the Convention on International Civil Aviation signed in Montreal on 1984-05-10, was approved by the Cabinet.
