Introducing Courses on Artificial Intelligence to the Education System
- During the deliberations regarding the introduction of courses on Artificial Intelligence to the Education System, at the Cabinet Meeting held on 2023‑10‑02, it was decided that it is appropriate to introduce the proposed courses adhering to the recommendations made by the Task Force that has been appointed to prepare a National Strategy and a Plan on Artificial Intelligence. Accordingly, as a part of the relevant Strategic Plan, it has been planned to implement a pilot project to introduce courses on Artificial Intelligence in relation to General Education. The joint proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Technology; and the Minister of Education to implement the said pilot project as follows with the support of Microsoft Sri Lanka (Private) Limited, was approved by the Cabinet:

* Revising the international syllabuses executed by Microsoft Sri Lanka (Private) Limited at present as per the recommendations of the National Institute of Education and Commence a pilot project from grade 8 in the schools where the required basic human resources are available.

* Digitization of schools selected for the pilot project under the facilities provided by Microsoft Sri Lanka (Private) Limited.

* Training 100 teachers who are teaching the subject of Information and Communication Technology, as trainers by Microsoft Sri Lanka (Private) Limited.
