Declaring the 21st of March as the National Seafarers’ Day

- In order to appreciate the contribution made by seafarers to the local economy of Sri Lanka, it has been recognized that it is appropriate to declare a National Seafarers' Day. It will enable creating opportunities to earn foreign exchange through attracting interested people for the maritime profession and to increase the contribution of the maritime sector to the national economy by improving the services of the maritime sector. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation to declare the 21st day of March every year as 'National Seafarers’ Day', was approved by the Cabinet.
