Submission of Imports and Exports (Control) Regulations No.01 of 2024 to Parliament for approval
- As a measure to ease the pressure on the foreign exchange market, the Government has temporarily suspended the importation of motor vehicles except construction vehicles and ambulances. However, the Cabinet had decided on 2023‑12‑11 to grant approval to the requests made by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation; the Ministry of Health; the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment; and the Ministry of Education, to Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies respectively to import three (03) Economy Class Ramp Coaches for the use of Sri Lankan Airlines Ltd., to obtain three (03) mobile maternity units donated by the United Nations Population Fund and 21 double cabs supplied by the United Nations Children's Fund, to receive a motor vehicle for the use of Korean Funded Project supplied as per the Agreement entered into between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Korea in establishing the Employment Permit System and to receive 02 buses for the Science and Technology Human Resource Development Project funded by the Asian Development Bank. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to submit the Imports and Exports (Control) Regulations No. 01 of 2024 made under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, No.1 of 1969 and published through the Gazette Extraordinary Notification No.2366/19 dated 2024‑01‑11, to Parliament, for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
