Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2024-01-24 (Subject to Confirmation at the next Meeting)

Vesting the National Cinnamon Research and Training Center at Palolpitiya, Thihagoda, with the Department of Cinnamon Development

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2023‑08‑14 has granted approval to establish a new Department in the name of he Department of Cinnamon Development with effect from 2023‑09‑01. It has been identified that it would be appropriate to vest the National Cinnamon Research and Training Centre falling under the purview of the Department of Export Agriculture at present with the newly established Department of Cinnamon Development for its research activities. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries to vest the National Cinnamon Research and Training Centre and its all assets as well as all functions and duties carried out by National Cinnamon Research and Training Centre, with the Department of Cinnamon Development, was approved by the Cabinet.
