Institutional Reforms for Digital Transformation

- It has been identified the necessity to create an agency equipped with a comprehensive mandate in order to function more effectively in Sri Lanka's digital transformation and harness its potential. Accordingly, necessary amendments have to be made to the Information and Communication Technology Act, No.27 of 2003, enabling to establish s Digital Transformation Agency to provide strategic and policy leadership, investment advice and oversight to drive the Government's digital transformation process, and to establish a National Center for Artificial Intelligence as a part of the Digital Transformation Agency to implement the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Technology to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft an amending Bill, was approved by the Cabinet.
