Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2023-12-18 (Subject to Confirmation at the next Meeting)

Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka Bill

- The approval of the Cabinet has been granted at the meeting held on 2023‑04‑03 to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft a Bill on the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism. Accordingly, the "Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka Bill" has been prepared on the guidance given by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The clearance of the Attorney General has also been received for the said Bill. The joint proposal made by the Hon. President; the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to publish the said Bill in the Government Gazette enabling the General Public and the interested parties to submit their views and suggestions in that regard, was approved by the Cabinet.
