700MW Solar Power Project proposed to be installed on the surface of the Poonakary Tank

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2023‑09‑11 has granted approval to accept in principle the proposal submitted by M/s United Solar Energy SL (Pvt) Ltd,. to develop 700MW solar power plant with 100% Battery Energy Storage System including the construction of necessary transmission lines from the Poonakary tank to new Kilinochchi Grid Substation and to appoint a Cabinet Appointed Negotiating Committee in order to evaluate the project proposal and to submit recommendations to the Cabinet to determine the power purchasing charges. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Power and Energy to implement the proposed project with M/s United Solar Energy SL (Pvt) Ltd,. based on the recommendations submitted by the Negotiating Committee and to sign a power purchasing agreement related to that, was approved by the Cabinet.
