Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2023-12-11 (Subject to Confirmation at the next Meeting)

Submission of the Order published in the Gazette under the Special Commodity Levy Act No.48 of 2007 to Parliament for approval

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2023‑10‑30 has granted approval to increase the Special Commodity Levy on importation of sugar from 25 cents to Rs.50/- per Kg. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to submit the Order imposed through the Gazette Extraordinary Notification No.2356/20 dated 2023‑11‑01 under the provisions of section 2 of the Special Commodity Levy Act No.48 of 2007 to Parliament for approval in order to give effect the said decision, was approved by the Cabinet.
