Delegation of powers to District Secretaries to carry out the functions of the National Disaster Relief Services Centre more effectively and efficiently

- The National Disaster Management Center has been established in 1996, under the then Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare, in order to plan and implement relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities, and the said Centre has been renamed as the National Disaster Relief Service Center from 2007‑01‑01 and so far it has been functioning as a Government institution. The proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Ministry of Defense to delegate the necessary powers to the District Secretaries/Government Agents so that the functions of the said Center can be carried out more effectively and efficiently, was approved by the Cabinet.
