National Policy on Climate Change
- Sri Lanka is a country that is constantly affected by climate changes thereby causing multiple impacts on local economic growth. The Government has recognized the need to implement measures to minimize the impact caused by climate change with a focus on sustainable development. It has been further recognized that it needs a significant update of the National Policy on Climate Change prepared in the year 2012 in order to address climate vulnerability, national priorities, new and emerging global developments and obtain benefits from climate-related programme, mechanisms and funding. Accordingly, the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies having submitted the Cabinet, the National Policy on Climate Change updated by the Ministry of Environment in accordance with the Nationally Determined Contributions, the National Adaptation Plan for Climate Change Impacts, the obligations of the Paris Agreement as well as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, also in consultation with the relevant parties, it was decided decided to grant approval to the said Policy.
