Introduction of a Broadcasting Regulatory Commission Act for Electronic Media

- The proposal submitted by the Minister of Mass Media to prepare a Bill to introduce a Broadcasting Regulatory Commission Act for electronic media with a view to ensuring a media with high standard securing the freedom of speech and expression to the maximum, was taken up for consideration at the Cabinet meeting held on 2022‑09‑22. In that instance, a Cabinet Sub‑Committee was appointed under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to submit recommendations on policy matters which need the attention in preparing the proposed Bill and the said Committee has prepared an initial draft with suitable provisions to be used as basis for preparing the proposed Broadcasting Regulatory Commission Bill. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Mass Media to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Bill based on the said initial draft, was approved by the Cabinet.
