Drafting a new Employment Act

- The Concept Paper prepared by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment having discussed with the Trade unions, Employers and relevant stakeholders in order to draft a new Employment Act so as to suit to the current requirements, was taken up for discussion at the Cabinet Meeting held on 2023‑08‑07. At the said Cabinet Meeting, it was decided to refer the said Concept Paper to the Trilateral Committee which is functioning under the Prime Minister's Office representing Employers, Employees and the Government, to further discuss in that regard with all relevant stakeholders and submit recommendations. Accordingly, the said Committee chaired by the Hon. Prime Minister submitted a Report with recommendations regarding the matters that need the attention of the Cabinet having studied the Concept Paper, to the attention of the Cabinet and thereafter, it was decided to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft a Bill based on the said recommendations and the Concept Paper submitted by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment pertaining to this matter.
