The Grant assistance provided by the Government of Japan for the development of the Fisheries Industry

- The Government of Japan has agreed to provide a grant of Japanese Yen 200 million (approximately LKR 435 Million) under the Economic and Social Development Programme of the Government of Japan, with the objective of developing cold chain facilities and empowering the fisheries sector with modern electrical equipment to ensure a high value addition to the marine products to upgrade the living standard of the fishermen in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka. It is expected to secure ice making machines for the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, digital platform scales for Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation, fishing nets for the National Aquaculture Development Authority, prefabricated refrigerators/freezers and refrigerator Cargo trucks for the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to obtain the said grant assistance and to enter into the respective agreements thereto, was approved by the Cabinet.
