Amendment of the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act, No.19 of 1954 to meet the current needs

- The Cabinet has granted its approval at the meeting held on 2022‑08‑08 to amend the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act, No.19 of 1954 in a manner that enables the women employed at night in offices engaged in information technology based businesses, knowledge process outsoucing businesses, business process outsourcing institutions and offices which handle accounting, administrative and technical work for the business organizations located in the other countries. The Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) (Amendment) Bill prepared accordingly by the Legal Draftsman has received the clearance of the Attorney General. The proposal made by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment to publish the said Bill in the Government Gazette and thereafter, submit it to Parliament for approval,was approved by the Cabinet.
