Payment of compensation for the damaged crops in the Yala Season 2023

- Approximately 58,770 acres of paddy and other crops have been damaged in the Yala Season 2023 due to the inability to supply of adequate water upon the adverse weather condition which prevailed recently thereby affecting about 53,965 farmers. Accordingly, the Cabinet, taking into consideration a proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture pertaining to the payment of compensations to the farmers so affected, decided to allocate necessary provisions for the payment of compensations, under the Crop Insurance Scheme which is currently in operation, despite the severe financial condition encountered by the country.
