Anti-Terrorism Bill

- The approval has been granted at the Cabinet meeting held on 2023-02-27 to publish the Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman to introduce the Anti-Terrorism Act by repealing the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act, No.48 of 1979 currently in force, in the Government Gazette. It has been decided to introduce required amendments for the said Bill, taking into consideration the views expressed by several interested parties on some of the sections in the said Bill published in the Government Gazette. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to instruct the Legal Draftsman to re-prepare the Anti-Terrorism Bill incorporating the amendments identified in the Bill already drafted, was approved by the Cabinet.
