Establishment of a new Department for Cinnamon Development

- Taking into consideration the contribution of cinnamon to foreign exchange earnings as a minor export crop, the Hon. President has pointed out the necessity of promoting the said crop as a commercial crop, through a Budget proposal for the year 2023. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Hon. President and the Minister of Plantation Industries to establish a new Department named as the Cinnamon Development Department to provide the necessary facilities for the production and exportation of cinnamon, improvement of the quality of cinnamon products, value addition, diversification of products and facilitate cinnamon growers, processors and exporters, was approved by the Cabinet.
