Supply of water from the Samanalawewa Reservoir for cultivation

- The Minister of Power and Energy brought to the notice of the Cabinet on the alternative measures that could be taken pertaining to the proposal for the release of water from the Samanawewa Reservoir due to the lack of sufficient water for cultivations of farmers engaged in farming under the Udawalawa Reservoir. After an extended discussion on the said alternatives, the Cabinet granted approval to release the maximum possible quantity of water remaining in the Samanalawewa Reservoir for farming and to purchase the necessary electricity from the private sector as a solution to the issues arising with regard to electricity generation due to the above action.
