Amendment to the Control of Pesticides Act, No.33 of 1980

- It has been identified the necessity of amending the Control of Pesticides Act, No.33 of 1980 in consistent with the regulatory priorities in the global pesticide industry and the approaches that support the investigations against growing illegal activities. Accordingly, The proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Bill consisting of provisions including the recovery of public funds spent on eco‑friendly disposal of illegal pesticides from the offenders and the strengthening of punishment and activities related to suppression of repeated illegal acts by offenders and other relevant provisions, was approved by the Cabinet.
