Restructuring of the Department of Sri Lanka Railways

- It has been identified that it is essential to restructure the Department of Sri Lanka Railways which is classified as a Grade A department of the Government, providing both the passenger and freight services, in order to reduce the conflicts that have arisen as of now with related to the administrative, financial and operational functions of the said Department and to maintain the provision of services at the optimal level and for that, the concurrence of all the parties related to the Department has been received. Accordingly, taking into account a proposal made by the Minister of Transport and Highways, the approval was granted by the Cabinet to appoint a committee consisting of experts on relevant subject to submit suitable proposals regarding the restructuring of the department under a more suitable model.
