Order under subsection (2) of Section 29A of the Judicature Act, No. 2 of 1978

- Section 29A(2) of the Judicature Act, No. 2 of 1978 indicates the provisions that the monetary value of all actions specified in the Seventh Schedule over which the Small Claims Court will have exclusive original civil jurisdiction, shall be designated by the Minister in-charge of the subject of Justice from time to time. The Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms has published an Order in the Gazette Extraordinary Notification No. 2328/16 dated 2023.04.21, which states that the monetary value up to Rs. 1.5 million excluding the interest, which has been fixed to the said courts, shall be Rupees two million or not exceeding Rupees two million, excluding the interest. The proposal made by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to submit the said Order in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
