Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2023-07-10

Providing the land located at Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Colombo 02, which had been leased out to the Board of Governors of Sri Jinarathana Education Institute, as a grant

- During the implementation of the Beira Lake Restoration Project, a block of land in extent of 45 perches located at Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Colombo 02 has been provided to the Sri Jinarathana Education Institute on 99 year lease basis for education purposes, in lieu of land being utilized by the said Institute. The Patron Thero of the Governing Council of Sri Jinarathana Education Institute has made a request to provide the said land block as a grant in lieu of long-term lease, in order to develop the same enabling to provide educational services more efficiently and to provide more facilities to the students of the institute. The said request has been approved by the Board of Management of the Urban Development Authority on 06.04.2023. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Urban Development and Housing to provide the said block of land to the Governing Council of the Sri Jinarathana Education Institute by the Urban Development Authority as a grant, was approved by the Cabinet.
