Allocation of Lands for Sutech Sugar Industries (Pvt) Ltd (Greenfield Sugar Development Project) in Vavuniya District under long term lease basis

- Sutech Engineering Company, Thailand has submitted a project proposal for sugarcane cultivation and sugar production in Vavuniya with an investment of US$ 400 million. The proposed project is expected to produce 20% (120,000 metric tons of sugar) of the country's total sugar requirement. A 200 hectare block of land in the Vavuniya North Divisional Secretariat Division, which is covered by a scrub forest belonging to the Department of Forest Conservation, has been identified for the factory premises and associated facilities related to this project, The Department of Forest Conservation has agreed to provide the said block of land for the implementation of the proposed project. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Investment Promotions to take necessary steps to implement the proposed project, was approved by the Cabinet.
