Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2023-06-05

Order published under the provisions of the Measurement Units, Standards and Service Act, No. 35 of 1995

- Maintaining national measurement standards in Sri Lanka in conformity with the international measurements standards, providing metrological services for various fields, ensuring justice through regulatory and service activities based on measurements are the main functions of the Department of Measurement Units, Standard and Services. Accordingly, National Measurement Laboratory has been established under sub‑section 3(b) of the Measurement Units, Standards and Services Act No. 35 of 1995 and an Order has been published through the Gazette Notification No. 2294/54 dated 2022‑08‑26 by the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security as per the provisions of the Act, declaring the Post of Metrology Experimental Officer to be effective from 2022‑06‑16 for the activities of the said Laboratary. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security to submit the said Order to Parliament, for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
