Establishment of Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism

- On the invitation of Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms and the Minister of Foreign Affairs have visited South Africa for a preliminary study on their Truth and Reconciliation Commission. During the visit, meetings have been held with a number of heads of the Government of South Africa including the President and the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to establish the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Sri Lanka, taking into consideration the functioning of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Africa, was approved by the Cabinet.
