Amendments to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act No. 21 of 1985

- It has been identified the necessity to amend the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act, No. 21 of 1985 to be suited with the present day needs. Accordingly, it is expected through the proposed amendments to introduce new amendments enabling to take legal action against parties who have entered into the foreign employment business illegally, to regulate the recruitment process for foreign employment through intermediaries, and to reduce mass scale irregularities and corruption jeopardizing the industry of foreign employment and migrant employees. Accordingly the proposal made by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment to amend the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act No. 21 of 1985 and to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Bill for the same, was approved by the Cabinet.
