Preparation of the Nuwara Eliya Tourism Development Master Plan

- The beauty of Nuwara Eliya city is gradually diminishing due to haphazard development being carried out in Nuwara Eliya area, which has resulted a severe impact on tourism industry. Therefore, the need to prepare a comprehensive Tourism Development Master Plan has arisen so as to create a necessary environment for the growth of tourism industry in the area. Accordingly, the proposals made by the Hon. President to prepare the Nuwara Eliya Tourism Development Master Plan under the coordination of the Presidential Secretariat by involving all relevant parties, to appoint a Task Force headed by the Hon. Governor of the Central Province to regulate the construction of new buildings and to impose Regulations in accordance with the provisions of the Urban Development Authority Act, restricting the construction of new buildings of more than 4 storeys in the Nuwara Eliya District with effect from 2023‑05‑01, were approved by the Cabinet.
