Amendment of the Kandyan Law Declaration and Amendment Ordinance

- There have been requests from the Kandyan community from a considerable period of time to provide provisions to entitle the same rights of inheritance which apply to widows under the general law to the widows married under Kandyan Law enabling the rectification of the disadvantaged position of the widows married under Kandyan Law. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to amend the Kandyan Law Declaration and Amendment Ordinance and instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft the Amending legislation, was approved by the Cabinet.
