National Tree Planting Programme - “Ratata Husma Dena Nakatha”

- An auspicious time has been added to the auspicious time list (Nekath Seettuwa) of the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year for tree planting in coincide with the National Tree Planting Programme, in the year 2020. Accordingly a tree planting programme named “Nakathata Pelayak - Ratata Husma Dena Nakatha” has been implemented in that year and under the said programme 1.1 million trees have been planted islandwide. As per the Nekath Seettuwa of this Sinhala and Hindu New Year, the auspicious time for tree planting falls on 2023‑04‑20 at 6.38 am and the Ministry of Agriculture has made arrangements to implement a tree planting programme based on that auspicious time. Accordingly, the Minister of Agriculture informed the Cabinet on the measures taken to pant a perennial crop that will bear fruits this year and to get the total number of families of 52 lacks participated in the said programme, and the Cabinet decided to grant its concurrence for the same.
