Allocating the Galle Face Green for the General Public only to spend their leisure time

- The Sri Lanka Ports Authority has undertaken the task of developing the Galle Face Green as a Corporate Social Responsibility Project and the said authority has incurred around Rs.220 million for the development activities so far carried out. An amount of Rs.6.6 million has been spent to repair the damages caused during the recent struggle period. Although this premises should be maintained so that public can freely spend their leisure time, the premises is constantly damaged and maintaining beauty and the scenic nature thereof has become difficult owing to allocating the same for musical shows and other activities where public gather largely. Therefore, Cabinet decided not to grant permission with effect from 2023‑04‑20, to utilize the Galle Face Green for musical shows, political meetings or any other activity which damage or could damage the scenic beauty of its premises, except for religious activities.
