Development of Sigiriya as a Sustainable Tourist Destination

- Sigiriya, a world heritage and one of the major reputed archaeological sites in Sri Lanka is a tourist destination with the highest tourist attraction among local and foreign tourists. Further, it is also the highest income generating tourist destination from among the tourist destinations in this country. However, considering the issues arising when managing Sigiriya as a tourist destination, the proposal made by the Minister of Tourism and Lands and the Minister of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs to prepare a Master Plan to develop Sigiriya as a sustainable tourist destination, was approved by the Cabinet.
