Accession to the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
- Sri Lanka has been a founding Member State of the International Atomic Energy Agency since 1957 and it receives technical assistance for the fields such as Medicine, Industry, Safety, Food and Agriculture, Environment and Energy Planning under the Technical Cooperation Programme of the said Institute. Sri Lanka has not yet signed the Agreements to grant immunities and privileges to the experts and other officials who visit Sri Lanka to provide such technical assistance. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Power and Energy to accede the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the International Atomic Energy Agency as agreed by the Attorney General's Department, the Ministry of Power and Energy, the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board and the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council and thereafter table the same in terms of the provisions of the Diplomatic Privileges Act, No.9 of 1996, in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
