Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2023-02-27
Expediting the investigations and inquiries pertaining to goods detained by the Sri Lanka Customs
- It has been observed that a long time is taken to complete the investigation, inquiries and other related processes pertaining to goods including vehicles, detained by the Sri Lanka Customs. As this results in many economic losses including damage and destruction to such goods, it is important to expedite the existing processes followed by the Sri Lanka Customs on such detained goods. Accordingly, the Cabinet decided to grant its concurrence for the measures taken by the Hon. President to appoint a Ministerial Committee consisted with the following composition to study those matters and identify the amendments to be made to the Customs Ordinance if any and to submit recommendations on that regard to the Cabinet.
