Bill to establish the National Security Council

- The National Security Council of Sri Lanka has been functioning as the primary executive body since 1999 advising the President on matters related to national security as well as coordinating domestic, foreign, economic and military policies. The decision of the Supreme Court given on 2023‑01‑12 has recommended the need to place the National Security Council on a statutory footing and its composition with clarity. Accordingly, the proposal submitted by the Hon. President to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Bill to legalize the National Security Council through an Act, of Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
