Rationalization of Government Expenditure through a Systematic Review

- The Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies has proposed through the Budget 2023 to introduce the Zero Based Budgeting in view of rationalization of Government expenditure. Duplication in expenditure programmes, wasters, low priority activities and efficient and effective methods of utilizing existing allocations will be identified through a systematic review under the Zero-Based Budgeting approach. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to appoint 10 Officials' Committees under the Chairmanship of a Deputy Secretary to the Treasury or a Senior Officer of the Treasury to carry out a systematic review on the following Ministries for which a higher portion of provisions is allocated through the Annual Budgetary Estimates, was approved by the Cabinet.
