Amendment to the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act No.2 of 1996

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2020‑12‑21 has granted approval to prepare a Bill to amend the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No.2 of 1996 incorporating provisions relating to increase the penalties for obstructions caused to the authorized officers when implementing provisions in the said Act and regulating the illegal activities. Accordingly, the clearance of the Attorney General has been received to the drafted Bill. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Fisheries to publish the said Bill in the Government Gazette and submit the same, thereafter in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
