Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism

- It has been found necessary to introduce an independent domestic mechanism of truth seeking as a meaningful way to advance and secure peace achieved after the end of three decades of conflict. Sri Lanka has established several independent commissions of inquiry to look into post conflict reconciliation. Full implementation of recommendations of such commissions has to be achieved. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Hon. President; the Hon. Prime Minister; the Minister of Fisheries; the Minister of Education; the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms; the Minister of Urban Development and Housing and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to implement the concept on truth and reconciliation mechanism prepared accordingly, was approved by the Cabinet.
